Delhi High Court Cancels Lookout Circular for Ashneer Grover and His Wife in BharatPe Fraud Case.
The Delhi High Court has canceled a Look-out Circular (LOC) against Ashneer Grover, the former Managing Director of the online payment app ‘BharatPe’, and his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, in a fraud case. The Court noted that the FIR against the Grovers for cheating and forgery has already been dismissed. Justice Sanjeev Narula stated that even though the order to quash the FIR is not currently available, this fact is not disputed by the lawyers involved. He added that since the FIR has been quashed, the LOC issued by the Bureau of Immigration is no longer valid.
The LOC was issued by the Bureau of Immigration at the request of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police due to the ongoing investigation into the cheating and forgery allegations. The Grovers filed a plea to have the LOC canceled. The FIR was dismissed by Justice Chandra Dhari Singh after the Grovers claimed they had reached a settlement with the fintech company. The couple stated they first learned about the LOC when they were detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport on November 16, 2023, while trying to travel to the United States. They were informed that the LOC had been active since November 6, 2023. In May 2023, the EOW filed an FIR against them and others for an alleged fraud of Rs. 81 crore after a complaint from BharatPe. The High Court has now closed the case and ordered the cancellation of the LOC against the Grovers.
