The Supreme Court has moved the cheating case against choreographer Remo D’Souza to a court in Delhi.
The Supreme Court has moved the cheating case against Bollywood Director and Choreographer Remo D’Souza to Karkardooma Courts in Delhi. A two-Judge Bench, including Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, stated that transferring the case from Ghaziabad to Delhi would not harm the prosecution. They mentioned that the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Karkardooma Courts could assign the case to the appropriate Judge. Previously, the Court had sent notices to the UP Government and businessman Satyendra Tyagi regarding the cheating allegations. In 2016, Tyagi filed an FIR against D’Souza, claiming he was convinced to invest Rs 5 crores in the film “Amar Must Die” with a promise to double his money after its release, which was allegedly not fulfilled.
The FIR was filed under Sections 420, 406, and 386 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It was claimed that when Tyagi asked for his money back, D’Souza threatened him by involving underworld figure Prasad Pujari. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Ghaziabad acknowledged the case in October 2020, which D’Souza contested in the Allahabad High Court, seeking to halt the proceedings. However, on August 23, 2023, the High Court rejected D’Souza’s request, noting that he had not challenged the chargesheet, making it impossible for the court to provide relief.
