Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan has been recommended for a position in the Supreme Court by the Collegium.
The Supreme Court Collegium has put forward the name of the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court for a position as a Supreme Court Judge. During a meeting on November 28, 2024, the Collegium reviewed the qualifications of Chief Justices and senior judges from various High Courts who are eligible for this appointment. The resolution noted that Justice Manmohan became a Judge of the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008, and has served as its Chief Justice since September 29, 2024. He ranks second in the overall seniority of High Court Judges across India and is the most senior Judge in the Delhi High Court.
The resolution also mentioned that the Collegium considered the current representation of the Supreme Court, which has only one Judge from the Delhi High Court. As a result, the Collegium has unanimously recommended Justice Manmohan for the Supreme Court position. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2003 and became an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008. He served as the Acting Chief Justice starting November 9, 2023, before being appointed as the Chief Justice on September 29, 2024.
